Summer Camps in Switzerland for 2026: Alps, Lakes & World-Class Programs

Children at a summer camp in the Swiss Alps

Switzerland is the gold standard of international summer camps — and honestly, it has been for over a century. The Swiss practically invented the concept of sending kids to the mountains for a transformative summer experience. Yes, it's more expensive than Spain or Portugal. But the quality is unmatched: the facilities are immaculate, the staff-to-camper ratios are excellent, and your kids will be surrounded by children from dozens of countries. If you can swing the budget, a Swiss camp summer is something your family will talk about for years.

I've narrowed it down to four programs that I'd confidently send my own kids to — each with a different flavor, from adventure-focused to language immersion to winter sports.

Village Camps — Leysin

Village Camps has been running international programs since 1972, and their flagship location in Leysin is the one that keeps coming up in my research and subscriber conversations. Set in the Swiss Alps with jaw-dropping views, it offers two-week sleepaway sessions in July and August for ages 7–17. Mornings are dedicated to a specialty track your child chooses: Adventure, Tennis, English or French Language, Lab Explorers, Sports, or Leadership. Afternoons are all about the Alps — mountain hikes, high ropes courses, lake trips, archery, and rock climbing. The combination of structured learning and outdoor adventure is hard to beat. Village Camps also has locations in Portugal, the UK, and Austria if you want to mix and match across a European summer.

Les Elfes — Verbier

Les Elfes is one of the most well-known international camps in the world, and for good reason. Located in Verbier, they run both summer (June–August) and winter (mid-December through late April) programs for ages 6–17. Summer activities include hiking, mountain biking, climbing, zip-lining, and water sports. Winter is all about skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating, and sledding. What sets Les Elfes apart is the sheer international diversity — campers come from 75+ countries, so your child will be making friends from all over the globe. The accommodation is in traditional Swiss chalets with ensuite bathrooms, which is a level of comfort most camps don't offer. If you're looking for a single camp that works year-round, this is it.

Ages: 6–17 | Type: Sleepaway | Language: English | Season: Summer & Winter

Camp Suisse — Les Crosets

Camp Suisse runs compact six-day sleepaway sessions for ages 7–17 in the Portes du Soleil region. In summer, the focus is on adventure activities, team sports, and swimming. In winter, kids get five hours per day of ski or snowboard instruction — and the price includes equipment, lift passes, group lunches, and Geneva Airport transfers. That all-inclusive approach makes it one of the easiest Swiss camps to book without worrying about hidden costs. The six-day format is also nice if you're not ready to commit to a full two-week session.

Lovell Camps — Gstaad

Lovell Camps in Gstaad stands out because it's one of the few Swiss programs that welcomes all ages and offers both day and residential options. The core program includes 25 hours per week of instruction across sports, arts, and outdoor activities, plus evening activities for residential campers. Optional language lessons in English, French, or German are available — a great add-on if you want your child to pick up some language skills alongside the camp experience. Weekend excursions round out the program. If you want flexibility in terms of age range and commitment level, Lovell is the most accommodating option on this list.

Why Switzerland Is Worth the Investment

A few things that set Swiss camps apart from the rest of Europe:

  • Safety and infrastructure. Switzerland is, well, Switzerland. Everything runs on time, the facilities are pristine, and the safety standards are among the highest in the world.
  • International community. Swiss camps draw families from every continent. Your child won't just be in a room full of American or British kids — they'll be genuinely immersed in a global peer group.
  • The Alps. There's no substitute for waking up in the mountains every morning. The outdoor activities available at altitude — hiking, climbing, zip-lining, skiing — are simply not replicable in a city camp.
  • Year-round options. Unlike most European camps that only run in summer, several Swiss programs operate in winter and during school holidays too.
